Team T&D hiked out to the point in the afternoon. They spotted the same seals as Lesley who had been out earlier in the day. They had three males, Ka'ena RO40, PvKauai RW02 and Squinty R330. They were in separate areas, all looking green and hopefully will molt soon. The lone female today was RL74 Kami. BUT the big sighting of the day was their first look at Humpback Whales for the season.
Team R&B had an early but very short day. They had to take care of some family matters. They were greeted this morning with a beautiful sunrise, giving them an appreciation for life. They found RL20 Kalua snuggled in the rocks and looks to be about 50% molted.
In their last few moments in the area they saw R3CX Nalu and another critter. Unfortunately they couldn't make an ID, and Nalu and the U/U disappeared.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:30 to 1:25 today and saw two seals on island today. Both seals were way back on LPB. Initially she spotted an UU out on the rock flats. The UUU then moved onto the sand but was further back on the beach. The UU was subadult to adult size, with newer coat. Marilyn never got a look at the rear flippers or the ventral side.
About 11:50, Marilyn became aware of a smaller seal way back against the cliffs at the back of LPB. The seal was probably there all along, but hidden in the shade. The seal was juvenile size, and Marilyn believes this to be RP24/PO1 Mahalo, because of the natural bleach at the tip of her LFF. She later moved closer to the UU and sometime between 1:10 and 1:20 she disappeared.
