10/09/2021 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Lesley and Team R&B.💕  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:15 to 1:15 today.  When she first arrived there were two seals on LPB. AM#1, adult size, older coat, brown male belly, and she was unsure about tags.  U/SA; subadult size, cream colored belly and unsure about tags.

Not long after she arrive, the guys on the pier yelled out there was a seal swimming through. By the time Marilyn made it downstairs the seal was gone. One of them described it as a smaller/juvenile seal. When Marilyn got back upstairs, AM#1 had disappeared. He later returned to LPB about 12:05.

Marilyn had to take cover because of a ran squall. When she started viewing again she found AM#2 at RRB. Adult size, (larger than AM1) older coat, dark male belly and some green around the flippers and not sure about tags. After a second rain squall when Marilyn set up again she immediately found a large seal hauling out to 3BS and she's about 95% sure that this was AM2. He went up to the dunes and checked for other seals, did a roll in the sand and came back down from the dunes covered in sand.

At 12:48 Marilyn noticed that an UJ, had hauled out on high RRB. Juvenile size, new coat, and unable to see gender or tags. When the next rain squall was about to arrive, Marilyn packed it up.

On Marilyn's way home she checked a couple of locations.  She came across RL08 again hanging out in the shallows floating on his back. The waves would wash over him. Marilyn stayed with him for about 30 minutes.  He was ID'd by his CC scars on his left shoulder and mid-back, cream colored male belly and the L08 tag.

Team R&B were out and about early and spotted the cutest little green seal galumphing for a spot to get away from the huge waves pounding. RM31 Kai was squeezing his way up in the rocks and was totally hidden. When they did a check later in the day he was gone.

They found RL20 hauling up on the rocks, it appears  to have lost one of the hooks in the right corner of his mouth. The other hooks are still visible.  On their next check he was being visited by many of the rock jumpers in the area. Team R&B left hoping they wouldn't disturb RL20.

At another west side location they were thrilled once again to find R3CX Nalu. He had his face in the water and butt on the sand.  Further around the corner was RL42 also snoozing. Nice to see both seals are okay and not being bothered on a weekend.

Team R&B got word of a seal hauling out and since it was on their way they made a stop. They had junior sealette with them who I am sure was delighted to see Miss Rocky RH58. She was on shore showing off her beautiful new coat. Signs were up with ropes and life guards close by.
