Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Melody and Team R&B💕
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:35 to 1:55 and there were two seals on island today. Conditions were cloudy which made for difficult viewing.
Between 1BS and 2BS was an U/J: juvenile size, light belly and at least one tag. Marilyn could not determine the seals gender even with its belly exposed. She thinks there may be some sort of wound or scar left of mid-dorsal on the back.
At RRB was an A/M: large adult size, old dark coat with green in the rear flipper area and male belly.
Marilyn never got a good look at its flippers so she wasn't sure about tags.Melody headed out to the west side today to check a few spots. Melody's first stop she she didn't find any seals, until she looked over to another beach. She spotted a seal snoozing so she headed over. When she got there the seal exposed its H32 tag so she knew right away it was Ka'ale. The beach was pretty quiet only a few people walking out and about. Melody noticed Ka'ale kept rubbing the side of his head and belly, so maybe the green guy is getting ready to start his molt.
A little while later she met up with Team R&B, as they stood watching over Kaale they saw the dolphins way out heading south. A little while later they turned around and the huge pod of dolphins were swimming and jumping out of the water. The dolphins did not disappoint, they put on quite a show. Melody was able to capture some of it on video. (thank you for sharing).
Team R&B started at the bay and again saw multiple seals foraging like crazy. They were all far, far out. They were able to ID RL20 Kalua, Lei Ola RH48, and the lovely Aukai RL12. There was a fourth seal that came in fast, it had a very dark coat compared to the others. They reported as an U/U, it was an adult but other than that they didn't have much to go on.
As mentioned Team R&B caught up with Melody. Their observations and opinion of Kaale is similar. He was in a mood, flipping over, scratching and looking around. Basically not a happy camper. All of this may be pre-molt behavior.
They also enjoyed another day watching the dolphins racing along the surface at top speed, several jumping clear out of the water. Who know maybe they were chasing fish, or just having a good time.
