10/03/2021 Sunday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn started her day checking out the east side locations. She came across one snoozing on a beach with lots of people around. When she got to the location volunteers were on site setting up a small SRA. The seal was ID'd as RK24 aka Wawamalu/Bruno, Marilyn stayed for about 10 minutes. He's 3 1/2 years old, he was ID'd by tags K24/25 and light male belly.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:30 to 1:40 and there were a total of three seals. Initially there were two seals on the rock flats at rocky right beach.

Unknown Adult (UA) : same UA as yesterday, adult size, scar above the LFF and CC scar on mid-dorsal back and possible two tags. The scar LFF reminded Marilyn of R1KT who hasn't been seen in a while.

AM adult male: adult size, old coat, dark male belly. It is possible this seal is starting to molt on the upper chest.

Just as Marilyn was about to call it a day she spotted a seal that had just hauled out near the 3BS. Marilyn reported this seal as JF juvenile size, female belly and two tags.

Team R&B arrived at the outfall and there were lots and lots of fishers out today. The old timers weren't exactly happy about all the "new folks/strangers". Importantly there were two seals foraging. The old bosom buddies were together again RH32 Kaale and RN14 Kalani. The boys even seemed annoyed with all the strangers.  They went in and out of the outfall and then left heading out to one of the beaches. Looks like one of them tried to haul out but too many people out on the beach.

At another west side location they bumped into old "Papa" friend.  There was a seal on the rocks along with three boys walking around the area. At one point they came close but the seal was on lower rocks. They ID'd the seal as RL70 Leina. She is about 85% molted.

To the right was RH76 Kala resting on the rocks with the waves slightly washing over her.  One of the boys came by them and became aware of Kala. At that point Team R&B heard RL70 vocalizing and went to check. Someone was down there exploring the point. RL70 took off, seems she wasn't comfortable with anyone around. Team R&B stayed for an hour longer and only RH76 remained.

Team R&B headed over to the bay and spotted two seals foraging. RL20 Kalua was going for broke with his friend. This is the same clean seal with the scar on right side of face with red tags.  They not too sure if its Lei Ola but I know they would be really happy if it was.

Last stop for Team R&B another populated beach despite the rough surf. They didn't expect to see any seals but around the corner was R3CX Nalu snoozing alone by a rock. They didn't stay long and did notice an incoming crowd of youngsters. Hopefully they'll be respectful and let Nalu rest.
