I saw 5 HMS on Rabbit Island today. There was again a fair amount of interaction and moving around of the seals.
There were initially 3 HMS on LPB:
Adult Female 1 (AF1): Subadult to adult size, newer coat, gray female belly and two tags.
Adult Male (AM): Adult size, old coat, dark male belly and definitely two tags. Because this seal had two tags it may be a different adult male seal than some of the ones I've seen lately.
Adult Female 2 (AF2): Subadult to adult size, newer coat, light yellowish female belly and two tags.
At 12:13 a Juvenile Male (JM) hauled out at LPB and approached AF2. The JM was juvenile to subadult size, newer coat, lighter male belly and two tags.
The AM was initially with AF2 when I arrived, he then galumphed over the AF1, then back to AF2 and then back to AF1. He an AF1 entered the water about 12:30 pm. The AM then galumphed up the the JM and escorted him into the water at about 12:35 pm. Then with the JM leading, both the JM and AM hauled out again at LPB and joined AF2.
Are you confused?
Alone at SRI was a Subadult Male (SAM): subadult to adult size, light male belly, two tags, a CC scar above and behind the base of the RFF and another CC scar in the mid-dorsal area. He was originally on the rock flats behind SRI and then hauled out onto the beach at SRI.
