Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn and Team R&Bπ. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:20 to 1:05 today. There were only three seals today. (seems the others were just stopping by). When she first arrived there were two seal near SRI. SAF: subadult size, new coat, light gray female belly and two tags. She is almost as long as the adult male but thinner. Maybe she molted recently.
Nearby was an AM:adult size, old coat, dark male belly. This AM
entered the water about 11:35 and returned about a half hour later. He appears to have a small scar on the left neck area and perhaps two shallow puncture marks/scars on his mid left side.At 11:53 she noticed a seal newly arrived at the channel Makapuu end of RRB. It was reported as an UA unknown adult: adult size, newer coat and at least one red tag. This is a hefty seal, appeared to have a CC scar at top of the LFF and a CC scar in the mid dorsal area. Marilyn never got a look at its belly.
Team R&B made it to the outfall after picking up junior sealette. At the outfall they saw one seal foraging and lots of fishers. Team R&B ID'd RH32 Kaale and the fishers were surprised he wasn't stealing their fish. They were concerned there was something wrong (got to love that).
From a distance they saw two seals on shore at tracks. They had just left the area and didn't see them, so they turned around and went back. The two seals were Aukai RL12 and Kalani RN14. While watching Kalani he raised up and looking at the water. He left the site heading to Honolulu way. Aukai stayed on shore, when a kid walked right by her. Team R&B called out to him!
They hurried back to the outfall to see if Kalani was there, but he wasn't. They looked back to tracks and now Aukai was missing. Then they see her coming into the outfall with Kaale. They both foraged for about two minutes and then left the area.
At another west side location they saw a lovely female on the rocks. She was testing but kept getting wet from the big waves. They ID'd Kala RH76, she eventually got tossed off the rocks and left the area
Team R&B had their eye out for Benny. They headed over to paradise cove hoping he was there. Benny was not, but there was another seal in the zone. It was Kolohe RW22 resting.
They headed over to check out the bay and studying the water they spotted RL20 Kalua. He was very very busy foraging in the rough waters. Then to their surprise they spotted another seal with a nice coat and two red tags. It had a facial scar on right side of face. They were not sure but hoping it could be RH48 Lei Ola.
Last stop was at Makaha and spotted two seals. There was R3CX Nalu with RL42 Leia. It was tough getting to them with the rising tide, but timing it right they were able to confirm their IDs and get a couple of pictures.
