Team Billand started out early and just before 7 am they were surprised to find RN14 on the west side, as he had gone off island for a bit. But he's back on Oahu. He is looking robust, healthy and looking strong. Looks like his tag is broken and there is a scar on his hind flipper, in addition his cookie scar on his belly.
On their recheck he was in the pond snoozing alone, except for the fish nibbling at his body. Hmmm a seal spa, and he looked quite comfortable with that.
Then just before noon, Team Billand got a call about a seal hauling out at KoOlina. They were unable to get there right away, but when they finally arrived there was RH92 female from Kauai. She was on shore and a zone was up surrounded by lots of people. Two volunteers were on site.
About an hour later back on the west side Team Billand found Lei Ola RH48 on lower rocks. It was noted there was lots of seal poop in the water, with a very rich aroma ( where I come from that is what low tide smells like). Could be another critter was also there earlier.
Lei Ola was sleeping on the rocks alone, tags visible and appears to be in good health.
Upon recheck after 3 pm she was still there and moving further up the rocks due to the rising tide.
Meanwhile Team T&D were out on the northshore today doing their usual seal checking and beach clean-up. I just want to say these two haul a lot of crap off the beaches... thank you!
Along with their hauling stuff they also spotted a white belly from afar. It took them a bit but they were finally able to get a tag shot and ID K80. She is looking cute, and quite green, except for the bright white belly.
