Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Team Billand checked all the usual west side spots and found no one, so they did the Ka'ena West trek. At 9:20 am they spotted a seal on the rocks below who was huge (fat) and green. Barbara was especially happy to ID RH32 Ka'ale who she hadn't seen in 10 days. She was even happier to see he is okay, no hooks, lines, or new injuries.
We all know this guy finds his way into trouble so I join Barbara in being relieved he is okay. Wherever he has been he has been finding good eats, because he is fat!
On their way out Team Billand they spotted RW02 PvKauai very well hidden in the rocks. It was hot out there today, therefore they did not stay for long.
Team Billand did come across someone who was flying a drone in an obvious "No Drone Zone" . Not only were they flying the drone they were hovering a little too close to Ka'ale who reacted a couple of time by snapping at the drone. Team Billand asked them to stop since they were disturbing the seal, and the response was oh it's okay the seal goes back to sleep. I know Team Billand filed the appropriate reports and did the right thing by asking, but honestly, I would have hard time staying composed when someone is just being an idiot.
Marilyn spent a little over two hours viewing Rabbit Island today. There was Mom (Sadie) and PO4
again out on left point beach for her entire viewing period. She observed one feeding and PO4 spent it's time behind Mom where it's little head could be seen.
On the rocks in Seal Rock Inlet were two seals that often look like bookends.
UU#1 was adult size, at least one tag, no distinctive markings and Marilyn could not see the belly.
UU#2 also adult size, lighter belly, maybe a male, at least one tag, no distinctive markings. Marilyn thinks this is the same UU she saw at the SRI yesterday.
It will be nice when a NOAA team can get out there and do some bleaches... PLEASE!
