May 14, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.  And we have pup update by Lesley, see part 2 of the dailies.

Team Billand was out at 6:30 am heading to the Outfall. They noticed the dolphins speeding by toward Waianae, and thankfully there were no boats. They must have been rushing off to something.
Then Team Billand spotted two seals foraging off the outfall area. They did see a bleach mark on one of them that turned out to be RN14 Kalani applied bleach N14. The other critter had a very green face and raccoon eyes, which turned out to be Ka'ale RH32.  Then they were both gone.

Team Billand's day was broken up in that they had some personal appointments to  take care off.  While at one of their appointments they got a call from one of their surfer friends, there was a seal at plains. At 10 am Team Billand headed over and was thrilled to see Pohaku RO28 on shore resting. It looked like she was ready to come up higher with the rising tide. There was a zone up from the lifeguards.
Pohaku is looking large, happy, and healthy. Good to see this girl in the neighborhood again, she'll probably be heading for Kauai sometime soon.

Afternoon around 2:30 Team Billand was on the west side and at one of the more popular beaches they saw a little seal on shore. There were lots of surfers out with the big swell, some of them walked right by her. This little light-weight kept getting hit by the shore break causing her to move higher up. This of course delighted all the folks on the beach.  There were no signs out.
This little girl from Kauai sure has done some traveling and even here on Oahu she is making her way around.
She's tiny, but mighty! Let's hope she catches up with a buddy and gets some rest and learns about some good feeding spots.

Last find of the day came shortly before 2:45. Team Billand spotted a large male with a broken tag, hidden well behind and between some rocks. The critter was not cooperating at all, they didn't have much to go on and could not stay to find out. Barbara thinks it was RIP RR70, because of the broken tag, BUT can not be sure.
