May 2, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and a little news from NOAA. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part 2 of the dailies.

Team Billand first find of the day was just after 7 am at KoOlina. There was Pohaku R028 resting on the rocks in a shallow little pond.  They worked with security to put up some rope but no signs, as the signs would alert folks to look.   Team Billand did outreach and education with the tourist that were close by.
Pohaku is looking fantastic, fat, large and comfortably resting so peacefully. I know Barbara as well as the rest of us have wondered where she been, but doesn't matter no more, she is here and healthy.
Team Billand called the hotline to let them know about her.

Team Billand left KoOlina and just before 9 am they spotted a seal off shore foraging at a west side beach.  Mint face and big cookie cutter scare left side, small cookie scar on left head. The seal was doing five minute dives to the left and then moved to the regular spot where most seals are seen. The seal never landed.
Team Billand was with volunteer Karen K the whole time, they shared photos and together they were able to figure out R366.
R366 also has a natural bleach spot on her his hind flipper, a natural bleach spot on her side. White fore flipper was observed.

Team Billand's last find of the day was just before noon, they spotted a seal on the rocks alone at a westside location.  They ID'd RG28 and could see his cookie wound is healing, the flap fell off. The wound is still large but going through the normal healing process.
On their return check later in the day, he was gone, but Team Billand did bump into NOAA Team.

Speaking of the NOAA Team word has it Team was out there today
and managed to bleach RL42 today with N20.  There was a N20 on left and right shoulders, but the right bleach was a mess since, Leia decided to roll on into the tidepool.  It's a guess what it will end up looking like, but hopefully the left side turns out okay.

ALSO side note, one of my Kayak posse pals let me know that RL12/13 was seen again today on the Mokes. She appears to be healthy and hanging out with RJ30 Wailea. There is video from Wednesday, but I haven't been able to upload. (working on it because it's worth watching).
