Did a dawn patrol, then went to check on RN58 "Luana" & PO2 "Kalua" D6. "Kalua" is my pick nickname for him following our old traditions, it means "the second child".
RG40 "Holokai" showed up and spent the day with them.
RK36 "Kauai Kolohe" did a swim by, took one look a them all hauled out on the beach and swam on to the next beach to haul out where he spent the day in peace.
I went out to the point as part of the banding Albatross chicks team. First we get the chick, then it's banded with a metal tag on the right foot, a blue plastic one on the left for HI and easy number reading, followed by blood and feather samples. The same as the seals once tagged you hope they never have to have human contact again.
Came home and scrubbed myself with Doctor Bronners to get the fish oil off.
While at the point I did a quick check for seals. RO40 "Ka'ena" was hauled out at the entrance of his pool and RW02 "PVKauai" was on the outer reefs of the Main Pool being washed by the big South swell More tomorrow
PO2 and Momma Luana
