May 26, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's three day update is part 2 of the dailies.  Our PO2 is already 19 days old!

Team Billand decided to head up to the north shore and on their way they made a stop at white plains to check. Sure enough on shore by the fence line there was Pohaku RO28.  Also they met up with a pro photographer taking shots of the surf as the waves are good in the morning.  Team Billand spent time talking with Terry Reis who they have known for many years about Pohaku.
Team Billand called the hotline. as white plains was very crowded, but they do not know if anyone was able to get out there.

So off they went to continue their adventure and they went to visit with R5AY Honey Girl and her pup PO3. While there they observed a quick feeding, a shallow swim and back on shore for a siesta with a big belly.
While out in the area, Team Billand did a little nature walk and got to see one adult and two albatross chicks. It was a long hot walk, but worth the visit with PO3 and Honey Girl.

Marilyn spent some time checking out the east side and she came across RW22 Kolohe. She was able to ID him by his N22 applied bleach and broken W2 tag, male belly and natural bleach behind his RFF.  ( I've been thinking about him, since I have seen people reporting a seal at Hanauma Bay on social media, and wondering if it was our boy Kolohe. Happy to hear he's healthy and on the east side.)

Then off to Makai Pier where Marilyn spent from 11:30 to 1:30
observing Rabbit Island. She spotted five seals.
Mom (presumably Sadie RB12) and PO4 were again at Left Point Beach. There was one feeding session and so far Marilyn nor I have seen a swim session. They spent most of their time snoozing.

There were two critters about 20 feet left of the 1BS about mid-beach.
UM, who was a juvenile to subadult size, male belly, two tags and no obvious markings.  (Marilyn hoping it is Aka RJ60, but there is no way to confirm)
UJ (f), juvenile size, female belly, tags and very green. Most likely one of last years Rabbit Island pups.
These two critters although close to each other had very little interaction with each other.

A fifthe seal was on the rock reef adjacent to Seal Rock Inlet. Appears to be a subadult to adult seal with a lighter belly. There was never a clear view of the belly and no specific markings.
