11/03/2021 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn and Team R&B💕.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 9:55 to 11:40 this morning. There were two seals on island today and were between 3BS and SRI.
J/M: juvenile size, old coat with lots of green, male belly and no tags. Marilyn thinks this seal may have some sort of scar on its mid right side. Her best guess is this may be one of the RI male pups born in 2020 (PO1 or PO3). Then again it could be one of the many Molokai pups born the same year.
RK37 Huia: subadult size, newer coat, two tags, female belly, and most important the identifying natural bleach on her left lower side. She looks good and healthy. This is Sadies RB12 pup born in May 2018.

In yesterday's news Team R&B sent a late email of seeing RM31 on the rocks. They watched him make his was down the rocks, and then back up after getting hit by the surf. The little guy never gave up, made his way in spite of getting tossed around.

Team R&B started their day at the bay and saw seals swimming in dirty water, lots of debris floating around. There was Lei Ola RH48, Nalu R3CX, and of course RL20 Kalua all foraging. RL20 ended up on the rocks and they spotted a small hook with a lure on his chest.
They spotted another seal foraging to the left. They could see its cookie scars showing and ID'd Lefty RG28.
On a return visit to the bay they found Nalu R3CX hauled out and settled by RL20.

Once again they spotted Kaale RH32 snoozing on shore at tracks. It really is a shame this poor critter seems to get disturbed there daily. He was alert, there were footprints all around including paw prints.

After they left Kaale, they were at another spot and noticed two seals on shore. There were people around them, Team R&B called the hotline. There was RL12 Aukai, and RN14 Kalani hanging out together.

They left to check other areas and once again they found RM31 Kai snoozing way up on the rocks. He was peacefully resting and well hidden. The waved were pounding so its no wonder he was high up.
