11/05/2021 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Lesley and Team R&B💕.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 to 2:05 and there were four seals on island today.
Initially in the shadows on the back of LPB next to the cliff was an U/SA: subadult size, newer coat, very light ventral size, two tags. Marilyn wasn't able to determine the seal's gender. The seal moved near the rock flats and then started moving back towards the center of LPB.

Two seals were located on the beach front near the 1BS:
A/F: subadult to adult size, newer coat, two tags and lighter female belly. Marilyn did not see any other identifying marks.
A/M: adult size, old coat, dark male belly and one tag on RRF.

Near SRI alone was a juvenile, old coat with much green, male belly and no tags. Marilyn thinks this is the same J/M she saw on Wednesday.

Team R&B went to check to see if da Benny was around, but he wasn't. They did watch a couple of turtles grazing on limu. So they left the area and headed over to the outfall. They found Kalani RN14 at the outfall and then heading over to tracks. He hauled out with Aukai RL12 who was already there alone.
Further down from Aukai and Kalani was Kaale RH32 sleeping in Pohinahina vines. A little further away from him to the right was Kawika R407.

At another west side location Team R&B met up with volunteer Melina who id'ing a seal. The seal on water front rocks was RH76 Kala. She was alone, looking healthy and sassy.

Team R&B found RL20 Kalua on the rocks at the bay. The boy was alone and looking quite handsome. They saw an unknown passing by, but it took off and they never saw it again. It happened so fast they couldn't get a photo.

Checking all the nooks and crannies on the west side once again they found RM31 Kai. Once again he was alone and well hidden.

Last stop it looked like there were two seals on shore. When they got closer to the area, one was a turtle basking in the sun. The other was RL42 Leia.  She was being visited by two tourist who were happy snapping their photos. Shame they had to get too close.
