In yesterdays news Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island on Saturday and had almost 500 photos. ( I give her credit for being able to get through them). Marilyn returned today but with the all the rain she didn't stay.
On Saturday Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 2:15 to 4:30, there were five seals on island.
In a group of three near the 1BS were:
A/M: adult size, old coat, male belly and one tag on RRF. His molt was about 30%.
A/F: adult size, (seemingly larger than the male) with a newer coat, maybe two line scars on the mid right side, two tags and a lighter female belly. She was often partially hidden behind the adult male.
J/F 1: larger juvenile size, newer coat, light female belly and no tags. She may be the same juvenile female Marilyn saw with the juvenile male several days ago. Could be one of the untagged 2020 pups.
J/F 2: smaller juvenile size, light female belly and two tags. Because Marilyn did not see a nb on the LFF, Marilyn doesn't think this is PO1. Wonder if she is a traveler from another island.
Near the 3BS was:
J/M: juvenile size, old coat with lots of green, male belly and no tags. Marilyn thinks this is the same J/M she has seen between the 3BS and SRI over the past week.
Team R&B did their regular search of the bay and there were no seals. Then at the restcamp they spotted a seal on shore. They headed over and saw it was R3CX Nalu same as yesterday. They let security know he was still there, and later security put up two signs. There were nine boats in the area, chumming and catching fish. Seems the fishermen have figured out where there are seals there are fish. Hopefully they will look out for the seals.
Team R&B did a recheck of the area later and still no seals in the water, just R3CX still resting on shore.
Team R&B included a photo of Private First Class Herbert K Pililaau. He was from Waianae and lost his life during the Korea War.
Team R&B continued their search and lo and behold there were the three amigos on shore. Which three were there today? Basking in the sun was RN14 Kalani, R407 Kawika and RH32 Kaale.
