11/24/2021 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailes

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:25 to 2:35 and observed two seals on island today.
Between the 1BS and 2BS was an U/SA: juvenile to subadult size, pit scar on right rear dorsal area. Originally Marilyn thought it was a female, but was never sure.
Between 3BS and SRI was an A/F: adult size, gray mottled female belly and at least one tag (there may have been two). She moved down to the waterfront rocks and never gave her any good views after that.

Team R&B started out early morning and found R407 on shore alone at tracks. He was snoozing peacefully and thankfully undisturbed. He is 100% complete with his molt and has a beautiful new coat.

They headed off to the outfall and initially it took time to spot one seal. Further out there was a green seal which they are guessing is Kekoa Alii RK72, since it matches his coat and he has been there the last few day.
Next they spot another adult with a clean coat, but can not make an ID.  The seal was reported as an unidentified unknown U/U.
Out of nowhere the cutest little seal came flying into the outfall, running from the adults. They could not get an ID. They think it it might be a female, as the fishers told them the big seals kept after it and fighting  until the little seal swam away.

Team R&B were back on the road driving around looking and pulled over when they spotted one at another west side location. They were thrilled to find RL70 Leina, since they hadn't seen her in a while. She has some new scars on her back, nothing serious. The back got some line scratches as well as her hind flippers.

A stop at the bay they spot R3CX Nalu snoozing on the rocks. He was alone and sleeping peacefully.
They spotted RL20 foraging his little heart out. He spent the day foraging just outside the jetty.

At the cliffs they found one of the little ones, which took them forever to find. He blended in so well sleeping on the rocks. He seemed okay, since he was sleeping both eyes were closed and they never got a chance to look at his right eye.

The last seal of the day was their beloved boy Benny. They spotted a
seal hauling up high on shore from afar. They made their way over to find Benny resting quietly until a dude drove his dirt bike pass him a couple of time. The bike was loud and Benny postured.
His would looks pink today and also seems elevated off his chest. Maybe its infected or just able to get a better look. NOAA has been informed.
Da Benny went back to sleep after looking around for a while and giving the dirt bike dude some stink eye.
