11/26/2021 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team T&D, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Team T&D hikes Ka'ena Point today and needless to say there were lots of people out there today. Most folks were respectful of the seals. Team T&Ds first find was RL74 Kami. Poor thing is still hooked but does not seem to be bothering her.
Next find was RL98 Lina. She was well hidden in the rocks. There were several people that were unaware she was there and wanted to get their feet wet.  Thankfully Team T&D were there and pointed her out.
Last seal they came across today was RO40 Ka'ena. The ole' boy has finally started his molt.

Marilyn had a surprise find today. She heard of a seal on one of the beaches so she went to check.  She came across a adult to sub-adult size, light mottled female belly, no tags and one 2" scar on her left side and another pit scar on her right rear side. She has a small darker pigmented spot on her chin. Marilyn is fairly sure this is the same seal she saw on Rabbit Island yesterday, which she labeled as an A/F.
Nice surprise, but who is this little darling.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for a short time this afternoon and there were two seals during her observation.
A short distance for the 1BS was a J/F: juvenile size, two tags, light female belly and no nb on LFF. This could be RM26/N2 Nohea (Kaiwi's 2020 pup). OR it could be a 2020/2021 J/F from another island.
Near the 3BS was an A/M: adult size, new coat, gray male belly and at least one tag on the RRF. Marilyn suspects this the recently molted adult male who has been on the island for the last month.

Team R&B started the day by finding two seals foraging outside of the bay. The two were foraging and
fighting. One was Nalu R3CX and the other was RL20.
Then the noticed R3CX was gone. Eventually they found him hauled out at the camp. They went over to ID him and notified the lifeguards. They once again were wonderful and put out signs for the seals. Team R&B spend the time educating them who the seal was.

Next they found Da Benny RE74 resting on the shore on one of the west side beach. There were three signs at the site. Today they were able to get a look at his wound, it appears to have drained. The lump that was kind of fat and swollen looks to be flat now. (I think its one of the weirdest looking wounds/scars)

They arrived at another west side location and found Kekoa Alii RK72 on lower rocks snoozing alone. They noted Kekoa as fat and green.
Away from Kekoa they also found RG28 Lefty.

Lastly they headed over to tracks and found two seals together. When they checked it out they ID'd RH32 Kaale and R407 Kawika.
