11/12/2021 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 1:55 and there were two seals on island today.
Almost directly down from the 1BS were:
U/SA; subadult to adult size, newer coat, cream yellow belly, two tags. All the sand prevented Marilyn from determining its gender.
Nearby was the molting A/M: adult size, old coat, darker male belly and one tag on RRF. The molt appears to be about 20% now including most of the upper ventral area and a few lower patches.

Team R&B saw lots of dolphins out at the bay today. They noted there were a couple of dolphins that
had cc wounds. There were boats that came around and no one entered the water. This is good, maybe they got the message with the new restrictions.
They spotted two seals foraging, both were further out. One was R3CX and they could not determine the other seals ID.
RL20 Kalua came into the bay to eat by stealing whatever fish he could. No seals hauled out today.

Team R&B went looking and were thrilled to find Benny RE74 resting on shore. He was alone and seems to be doing fine. They couldn't get a look at his wound because of his position, but did not seem to be disturbed or uncomfortable.

At another west side location they spotted Kala RH76 on the rocks to the right. The waves were coming up and getting at her but she remained.  She looks healthy nothing new to note.

Then Team R&B headed over to tracks and found three amigos together. Todays trio was RG28 Lefty, R407 Kawika and RN14 Kalani.  The boys were doing fine and then people came, several getting very close to take pictures. Its just a shame someone is out there educating people.
Over to the left was Aukai RL12, and she was approached by RH32 Kaale.  There were some words between the two, Kaale being a butthead. Boy needs to learn some manners.

Last Team R&B continued their search and in the last hour they found a seal at yoks. They got signs up but there were people playing in the huge surf right in front of the seal. Team R&B did not recognize the seal. Once people were yelling at each other the seal got spooked. They hurried over by the signs and tried to get as many photos as possible for an ID. What they do know, female, young, cookie wound on left rump, no tags. Unfortunately she left, too many people around making noise. They reported her as an U/F unknown female.
