February 5, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies:

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and an update from Marilyn.

As Marilyn was on her way home this afternoon, she spotted signs at the eastern end of Sandy Beach. She made a stop and bumped into old posse pal Gayle who was watching over Right Spot R016.  Volunteers had set up a SRA. Right Spot was in an awkward position that made it difficult to see most of her normal ID marks.  Gayle had seen her right side NB, female belly and the wound healing on her chest.  Marilyn was only able to see the line scar or the left side of her face. Seems Right Spot has been hanging out in the area since sometime yesterday.  Thank you Marilyn for the update.

Team Billand arrive at KoOlina by 630 this morning. They found da Benny RE74 snoozing alone by the Naupaka. They put out signs and educated the folks that were out and about and called the hotline.  Benny decided to leave a gift on the beach (he made pee and a big poop).
While standing on shore another seal came in but did land, only checked out the beach. It was RN14 Kalani doing a quick check and then he was gone.

Late Morning Team Billand returned to KoOlina to check if Benny was there, but to their surprise there was a seal on the rocks. Turns out to be Kolohe RW22 with a volunteer onsite. Benny was no longer there and not sure when he left.

Mid morning check to a westside beach Team Billand spotted a seal as they were approaching. The critter coming in was RW02 PvKauai who hauled out on lower rocks and stayed. Team Billand was there for over an hour and decided to leave, but that soon changed when they spotted another seal haul up on high rocks to the left. It was RN14 Kalani. (Hey is he following you?)  This time he stayed on high rock and went to sleep.

The HIGHLIGHT of the day came this afternoon, when Team Billand arrived at another westside beach. They spotted two seals and quickly ID'd  Ka'ale RH32, BUT the female he was with looked unfamiliar. Finally they see the tags 7AV/7AU ??? who dat?
Well Team Billand made some inquiries and it turns out this girl is from Kauai (who was treated for a fishbone stuck in her throat sometime last year and is not seen very often).  Team Billand made quite a find today! Her official ID is R376,
Team Billand noted she has a scar under jaw, right side of belly got a cookie scar and a "ding", chest area got a big bite of some kind and brown/rusty spots, right fore flipper might be missing digits.
Meanwhile Kaale was right next to her side by side looking very cute. He's only 2 y.o. and he's already a charmer.
Team Billand left the site when they were approached by an unleashed dog. This area is known for dogs roaming around and didn't want the dog to approach the seals. He didn't seem to notice them.
HEY TEAM BILLAND - ya done good!
