February 20, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Tammy of Team T&D. Tammy was solo today.

Tammy was out at Ka'ena Point on her own today and her first find was Ka'ena RO40 at back beach.
Her next find was resting comfortably on the "new" coral beach and ID'd as R3CU.
Then on the rocks by the outer pool was Squnity R330 and Oahu's newest visitor R366 little male from ?  (we don't really know, he was seen on Molokai, but "believed" to be from Niihau).

In an unrelated seal sighting Tammy saw her first Albatros chick and spied a Glaucous wing gull.  How do I know this? Tammy told me so.... how does she know this? The posse told her what kind of bird it was.  We love our monk seal posse!

Team Billand found their regular cast of characters ( feels like deja vu). They arrived on site and there were three. Kawena was with Kekoa to the right and Kolohe was alone on high rocks to the left snoozing.
Then there were two seals playing rough in the water to the right. One for sure was Kaale RH32, and after a bit they confirmed the other was RN14 Kalani. The bosom buddies were back together playing.
Kaale disappeared and Kalani RN14 hauled out. RN14 made it to mid rocks with Kawena. There was no interaction between them just went to sleep.

Team Billand left the west side to head over to Plains to check. Upon arrival there was one seal on shore and a lot of access surf guys on the beach as well as volunteers.  The seal was Buster V08 and he was roped off per lifeguards.  Buster is looking very dirty sandy, it made it difficult to see his markers.  Team Billand didn't stay long.

Team Billand made a special stop at a Leeward beach to see if there were any critters and sure enough there was RW02 PvKauai. They had a feeling he might be there since he wasn't with the group they had seen earlier in the day. They called the hotline.  Later in the afternoon they checked back on him and there were a few signs out.

Next stop for Team Billand they found Lei Ola RH48. She was alone and looking healthy. Her tags showing and Team Billand took a couple of quick pictures and left.

Then Team Billand went back to check on the seal party and that is when they saw that Ka'ale had returned and hauled up with Kolohe RW22. Kolohe moved and made some room for him and Kaale went to sleep.
