February 15, 2019 (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

🌺Went out to the point this morning. It was wet, muddy, slippery and as always BEAUTIFUL

Albatross chicks are starting to get out from under their parents, the new couple on the block The Black Footed Albatross were there doing their courting dances and songs, the endangered Hawaiian Bees project is successful and I got to see & ID 2 HMS.

In the Main Pool RN58 "Luana" and R330 "Squinty" were side by side on the center island reef.
The aftermath of the BIG waves storm are very visible from "snow" in the tide pools to a complete re landscape of Main Beach. Corals have shifted to the West side of the beach creating 3 new beaches. Some reefs covered for several years now by the corals have reappeared.

My favorite photo in quite a while is the one of the Black Footed Albatross flying over the seals !  More tomorrow
