February 14, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies: Happy Valentines Day

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and it was a long busy day. But knowing them they wouldn't have it any other way.

Team Billand started their day at White Plains and by the cabins they see two seals.  They first ID'd Buster boy RV08, so they quickly put up a zone. The second critter by the fence line was the lovely Ms Pohaku R028. They didn't have that many signs so they did the best they could, called the hotline twice to inform them.  Then Team Billand ot a call of a third seal by the lagoon and there was a ceremony taking place.

Team Billand rushed over to Lagoon 3 and found a huge crowd, an couldn't see the seal. Finally off to the left they spot the critter and of course it is none other than da Benny RE74 smack dab in the middle of a Valentine Ceremony for loving couples to renew their vows.  It is funny how things happen because I couldn't think of a "couple/team" better to be there.  Auntie Nettie did the ceremony and she even blessed da Benny.  Sounds to me that Team Billand had a very special valentine gift.

After leaving White Plains Team Billand headed for the west side and the first critter they found was already up on high rock asleep. It was Kekoa Alii RK72.  They were getting read to move on when they spotted a seal slithering and posturing to see who was on the rocks. Ka'ale RH32 had arrived and galumphed up next to Kekoa. Kekoa vocalize at him a little and then Kaale galumphed past him and into the pond out to the other side about 70 feet away from Kekoa. Ka'ale settled and went to sleep on the rocks.

The rains came and Team Billand continued on to another westside location. There was Kaimana RJ58 looking lovely, healthy and alone sleeping on the rocks in peace.  They didn't stay by her for very long.

Same location but different area they found little Puna RK88. He apparently is not very cooperative when it comes to showing his tags. He snuggled in the rocks and is very well hidden. Thank goodness for flipper flexing.

Team Billand spots two more seals, they are arguing and then they were out of sight. Team Billand went to explore a little more and to their surprise they found R330 Squinty with another seal. Both are coming up on the rocks. The other seal is a female ID'd R376 new girl from Kauai tags 7AV/7AU.  Squinty was pursuing her and she kept trying to move away. "Back off and leave me alone".  Squinty followed R376 in between the rocks, then Team Billand noticed the rains were coming .  Both seals remained as Team Billand headed out.

Before heading home Team Billand went back to check on Kekoa and Kaale. Kekoa was in the same spot as the morning and Kaale was now mid high rocks. AND now RW02 PvKauai was to the right, mid rocks sleeping in a hole. And if that wasn't enough there was Kawena RH36, she was alone on lower rocks snoozing. She is looking healthy, plump and cute as ever.
