Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Lesley, Team T&D and Team R&B💕. Lesley's Ka'ena update is from Wednesday 4/14.
Team T&D hiked Ka'ena Point today and passed Lesley while they were on their way out. They saw PvKauai RW02 and RL74 Kami together on a little beach. They also came across Ka'ena RO40 snoozing on the rocks. Exciting times for the Albatross chicks starting to spread their wings.
Team R&B found R3CU very early on the lower rocks snoozing alone. When they went back to this west side location he was still there but had moved into his water hole.
When they arrived at one site, a surfer let them know a seal came to shore and then left heading towards
the outfall. When they got to the outfall they saw two seals, one was RG28 Lefty and the other RN14 Kalani. They watched them as they both headed back to tracks. There were people on shore taking pictures, Team R&B asked them to move back so the seals could haul out. One dude was persistent and didn't listen until he got his picture. Finally both Kalani and Lefty landed together. Team R&B called the hotline and spent the time educating the folks on shore. Volunteer Melina arrived. During Team R&B's observations they did not see the fishing line. Even when Lefty and Kalani got into a brief fight Kalani had his mouth wide open. The two eventually settled down so they left.
Team R&B went to check on Paradise Cove they found a seal snoozing up on the rocks. People were gathering close to the seal, so they advised them to step back. They did their best to educate people and called the hotline. People continued to gather near the seal who was ID'd as RW22 Kolohe. He entered the water and the kids started yelling to get away! Security came to get people back, Kolohe made his way to mid beach. Security gathered folks and their belongings out of Kolohe's way. They got the signs and made a safe zone for him. They educated the tourist and a volunteer arrived. Kolohe remained on shore.
Marilyn took the day and viewed Rabbit Island from 1:30 to 3:00. There were five seals on Rabbit Island today.
On LPB - (UAF) unknown adult to subadult size, lighter female belly and two tags. There were no
other distinguishing marks.Near 1BS - (UJ) an unknown juvenile to subadult size, lighter possible male belly and two tags.
About 20 feet Lanikai side of the 3BS was an (SAF) unknown subadult size, light female belly and two tags.
RF34 Pua and P01 started off near the waterfront rocks about 20 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS. About 1:45 they entered the water and went for a swim. Marilyn was unable to follow then while they were in the water but about 2:20 they hauled out in the middle cliff area. After the hauled out P01 nursed and then moved behind Mom.
