4321 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island twice today and spotted four seals on island. The first session was from 11-12:30 when a rain squall cut that session short. She later returned at 2:45 and stayed to 4 pm.

On LPB there was a subadult male that moved to and from the inlet. Subadult size, large gray belly and possibly two tags.

Near the 3BS was Mama Pua and P01. They did their usual routine of

staying mostly hidden. P01 was seen nursing twice, otherwise hidden behind Mom or the waterfront rocks. One of the photos shows that beautiful NB on the LFF.

On the rock flats behind SRI Marilyn noticed just before 12:30 an unknown adult. The seal is adult size, had tags but unclear of its sex. They "might" be an applied bleach but it could be sand.

Marilyn made a stop today that she hadn't done in quite some time. She was reward with a seal foraging in the water, and best of all the applied L9 bleach made it all the more sweeter. The 2020 Molokai pup has been seen at Rabbit Island several times, so nice to have him still in the neighborhood.

Team R&B found the infamous RH32 Kaale at the outfall foraging as usual. As they watch they saw a fisherman had hooked an eagle ray. He reeled it in as close as he could and cut the like and the ray took the off, with a bottle attached to the line.

Later they went back to the area to check and found Kaale RH32 hauled out and alone. They spoke to one of the homeless guys that had taken it upon himself to keep an eye out for Kaale.

Team R&B headed to another westside site and found two seals. There was RN14 Kalani across from a guy and his son fishing. Kalani was snoozing on left high rock.  Then there was Lefty RG28 to the right water front rocks.

They took a ride out to the bay to look for seals, and didn't see any so they spent the time watching for

dolphins or whales, but nothing. Finally they saw movement from below and there is RL20 Kalua stretching out and made it all worth it.  Then there was an odd looking fly in the weeds, they described it having a black bottom with spikes.  When I zoomed in on the photo I swear it looks like it's wearing aviator sunglasses!

Last stop they went back to check on Kalani and Lefty, who were still there. But this time they were thrilled to find their boy Benny RE74 snoozing alone on lower rocks.
