04/11/2021 Sunday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:50 to 1:20 today.  Unfortunately a boat anchored in front of her line of sight to RF34 Pua and P01 so there was limited viewing of Mom and pup. There were a total of four seals on island.

About 50 feet Lanikai side of the 1BS was (UJ#1) an unidentified juvenile size with a light male belly with a fair amount of green. She did not see any tags and judging by its size there is a good chance it's one of the 2020 kids.

Mom RF34 and P01 were again among the waterfront rocks directly down from the 3BS.  Marilyn did

see a little swimming in the tide pool, but that is when a boat anchored and blocked her view. A couple of more glimpses she saw a nursing session and enough to notice the kid is putting on some pounds.

About 50 feet Makapuu side of RF34 and P01 an unidentified juvenile female  (UJF) hauled out soon after Marilyn arrived. She is reasonably sure there were two tags, and a light female belly.  Again by its size it appears one of the 2020 kids.

Team R&B started out early on the west side and got a little distracted by finding a treasure of shells. As they walked they spotted a seal off the lifeguard station at yoks but then it disappeared, so it was reported as an U/U.

Finally they caught up with a seal at Ka'ena West. It was large marge RL42 Leia.  She was alone and snoozing on the rocks peacefully. As they walked away a couple of folks noticed her and started climbing down on the rocks. They stayed and waited and thankfully the people left.  Leia remained in snooze mode and was just fine.

Next find was a large male on the rocks sleeping alone. They were able to ID Kalani RN14. They didn't stay long, they saw his tags, natural bleach spot and were not able to confirm if the line was still there. He did not cooperate by facing the right way.

The day ended with a wonderful surprise! Finally they found their beloved Lei Ola RH48. She was

scrambling along the rocks as thought she was agitated. She is looking very plump, healthy. She was sneezing a lot and that is when they noticed a very light line around her snout to chin. The line was so light it moved with the wind.  (THANK GOODNESS).  She is looking quite chubby and mint green. They stayed with her even when it began to rain, Lei Ola just slept.
