04/27/2021 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Melody and Team R&B💕. I know Lesley had a busy day out at Ka'ena point, see part two for her complete update.

Team R&B once again got to observe the little green kid on the rocks. When they arrived it looked like RL20 Kalua had just hauled in. Today he moved around a little bit more and finally showed his belly. Does not look like he is molting at all, just really green. They called him into the hotline and stayed with him for a couple of hours.

Team R&B got a call from a friend that lives near the beach on the west side. She said there was a small

seal on shore and lots of people were close by. When Team R&B arrived there was RM31/30 Kai looking sweet and adorable. He's green, nice weight alert and moved around well. The friend had put up ropes and helped keep some of the people away. Kai moved a little when a turtle popped up next to him. The Honu and Kai spent some time looking at each other. One of those special moments in nature.

Kai left and then turned around and came back a little to the right. They adjusted the zone. Team R&B called him into the hotline. They stayed with their friend and then another old friend Deb came and sat with them. Nice to see those connections from years of hanging out with the seals.

Their last sighting of the day was at the bay where they found the lovely Miss Lei Ola RH48. She was snoozing in just about the same spot as yesterday. She was enjoying her peace and quiet.

Melody went to see Kaiwi and P02 today with Dana. The first hour and a half the pup and Kaiwi slept by the wall in the birthing spot. P02 finally got antsy and started flipping its flipper and that was enough to get Mom moving. Kaiwi rolled over and P02 nursed a couple of times still working on its latching technique.

Momma Kaiwi took P02 down to the waters edge for a little swim lesson in the shallows. They spent about a half hour in the shallows and the kid even got a nursing in. They finally went back up the sand and went back to sleep in the birthing area. Based on some of the discussions and observations today it appears P02 it a little boy.

Kolohe RW22 was snoozing the whole time they were there by the outrigger canoe club. And later in the afternoon Benny hauled out by Kaiwi and the pup again.
