04/24/2021 Saturday In Addition

I received a email from Melody right after I finished the dailies so in addition to Marilyn, Team R&B and Lesley here is Melody's update from today.

Melody headed to Waikiki this morning because she heard last evening that two seals had been there at sunset. She arrived at 6:25 am and both seals had just left the beach but were foraging off shore. People on their SUPs and canoes were being respectful.  She waited for a couple of hours, but no seals showed up.

Melody left to check on the White Terns which is her other passion. After she was done and before heading home she decided to check the beach again. Sure enough there was a seal. There was Kolohe RW22 snoozing away, he was ID'd by the wound on his snout and his NB on his right side. She called the hotline and requested a volunteer since the beach was packed with people and lots of off-leash dogs.  A couple hours later still no volunteer, but another seal decided to come by and haul out. This turned out to be da Benny, and Kolohe wasn't happy about sharing the beach with him. Kolohe ran Benny off, and Benny hauled out at the next beach which was even busier.

As Benny was trying to haul out, one of the off-leach dogs went after Kolohe and he left the beach. Melody was unable to determine if the dog made contact with Kolohe. She called the hotline immediately to report the incident.   A volunteer finally arrived at 5 pm, and Melody left after a very long day.
