Melody and a friend made an adventure up to the north shore today. Their first stop with buddy Diana they spotted a seal laying close to the water's edge. It may have spent the night in that there were a wallow all the way near the naupaka. After watching for a bit finally got to see the tag and it was Holokai RG40. While watching him they spotted some dark images in the water initially thinking they were honu, but it turns out they were rays swimming in the shallows! How cool is that. Once Holokai decided to head into the water they left for the next beach.
There was PO4/N4 Ikaika/Kai snoozing soundly in a cove. He is looking very handsome and cute as all weaners. Once the tide came in and started splashing him he changed positions a few time and then settled in again.
Their next find was not a seal but a honu party. There were eight of them feeding off the reef. They watched this amazing site of them getting carried on and off the reef with the waves and feeding in between.
Marilyn made a stop on her way home from work today and spotted Nohea PO2. Guess she was behaving herself at least for the time Marilyn checked in on her. Marilyn also mentioned that she got word from Gayle that Kaiwi has begun her molt. Hopefully it will go fast.
Team Billand was at a west side beach before 7 am and they found RF28 resting alone on lower rocks.
They also spotted R3CX Nalu to the right near the water front rocks. He was also snoozing alone in a little pond peacefully.
About 45 minutes later while they were taking a photo of RF28 another seal appeared in the frame. It was Ka'ale RH32 and he snuck up on RF28 (being his old butt-head self). RF28 wasn't happy and they began to argue. There was mouth to mouth action, and Ka'ale lost, by leaving the spot and went around the corner. He galumphed up on the rocks, looking and smelling. Funny thing he didn't see Nalu R3CX to the right of him. Ka'ale finally settled down.
Off to another site and just before 1 pm they found Lei Ola RH48. She was resting between the rocks. There were fishermen to her left and some people to the right.
Then Team Billand spotted a very green seal between the rocks on a small sand patch. It's RL20 the green goblin. The couple that was there were very excited, they moved away but was still very excited.
Team Billand walked down to get a closer look and they were happy they did, because there was Lefty RG28 hidden behind a boulder snoozing in peace. So no wonder the couple was excited there were two seals there. Thankfully they were respectful and moved away.
