07/06/2020 Monday Act-With-Care (106) Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

They spent from 6:30 - 8 am watching the fish thief take fish now and then. The fishermen were very patient with him.  Needless to say Ka'ale RH32 has become very familiar to the fishermen.

At 8 am they left to check another beach thinking Ka'ale RH32 would be there but he wasn't. There was volunteers on site with their marked trucks.  They were looking for a hooked seal. Good news we know it isn't Ka'ale.
Off in the distance dolphins were jumping.

At 9:30 at another westside location they found RF28 resting in the rocks near one of the homeless camps. He wasn't hooked and Team Billand didn't stay long, as they didn't want to draw attention to him.

Just before 10 am Team Billand arrived at another west side location and saw RL20 Kalua who was hooked. He had a long line coming from the right corner of his mouth and the hook is visible. He was sleeping, not showing any signs of discomfort. Every once in a while he would look around.

Volunteers were onsite and NOAA arrived. They were able to cut the line which was about 6-10 feet,  removing the risk of entanglement.  They were unable to remove the hook at this time.  There are a number of things to remember,  he isn't showing any discomfort, the hook is visible and history has told us they can survive with a lip piercing ( i.e. Lei Ola who had a hook for over a year)
And here comes another seal, out of nowhere here comes Ka'ale RH32. He went up to RL20 sniffed him out and then left him alone. Ka'ale went to the left and settled for a snooze, later moving to lower rocks.

After 11 Team Billand  out checking another westside location spotted RF28 coming up on the rocks to the right of seal inlet. He was there resting until 45 minutes later R3CX Nalu arrived up in seal inlet. He saw RF28 and they had words but today Nalu turned to go in his own shallow pond.  RF28 went to his pond when Nalu decided to come out of his pond to whoop at RF28.
What's funny is all this was going on while NOAA was with RL20 Kalua cutting the line attached to the hook.
