Melody checked on Kaiwi RK96 again today. When she first arrived Kaiwi wasn't there but Melody decided to wait around. The beach was filling up with tents, towels, chairs, umbrella and tons with people. Then the lifeguard announced to the folks on the beach there was a monk seal foraging just off shore. Everyone included Melody looked and sure enough there was a seal having a good time chowing down.
Then all of sudden a seal popped up just off shore and the circus began. Trying to get people to grab their stuff and move was a sight to be seen, not to mention everyone trying to get a photo. Melody did her best to try and get 30+ people to pack up and move.
On the other hand Kaiwi was being patient waiting in the shallows. Once everyone moved out of the way, Melody started putting signs up, and that was Kaiwi's que to galumph up on shore.
She finally hauled out moved around a bit trying to settle in. She is looking beautiful at about 95% molted.
Team Billand found before 7 am at the outfall. He was up to his usual antics foraging and stealing, stealing and foraging.
At one point during the day they saw a seal coming around the jetty all the way to electric beach, looked like Ka'ale searching the area.
Just before 9 am there were scanning the area and spotted a seal sleeping at Tracks. They called the hotline and tried to make there way over to get an ID on the seal. But when they arrived the seal entered the water and left the area. They were not able to get an ID.
At 1:00 Team Billand was out at Makua Cliffs and spent some time watch over a seal not sure who it was. All the clues were hidden until a big wave came in and helped the situtation. It was RF28 and his applied V28 bleach was visible, male belly, and scar from his hooking.
At another west side location, they spotted two seals and a couple of folks setting up their stuff pretty close to the seals. Team Billand did their best to get there quickly. There was RL42 Leia and RN14 Kalani. While Team Billand was out there they flagged down two people who went up to the seals, and lots of monk seal 101 to otheres who came by Both seal remained on shore.
