Team Billand had fivecritters today. Just before 7 this morning they found R3CX Nalu right near seal inlet snoozing. They were able to see his tags. They did a later check and he was in the small pond and barely visible.
Next they came across RL20 Kalua who was all the way to the right hiding in the cracks of the rocks. They went to check on him three times throughout the say and he remained in the same spot.
Then at 9:30 they passed an area and spotted a seal on it's side. When they went to check the ID'd RF28. He barely moved but finally they saw his tags and was able to confirm. He turned over and there was his applied bleach V28.
This afternoon when they arrived at a westside location there were lots of fishermen, and they all were respectful and no incidents.
One seal showing a clean coat, freshly molted and a glimpse of her tag proved to be Lei Ola RH48. She was in her own pond sleeping and looking beautiful. There was a second seal reported as an U/U. Team Billand had their guesses, RN14, RL42, but the critter was not being cooperative at all.
When I read this I thought how odd, Team Billand couldn't ID or some marker, but when I saw the photos I laughed. This seal did not want to be ID'd, almost like turning it's back from the cameras.
Marilyn spent a couple of hours this morning walking some of the east side beaches looking for PO2 Nohea, but had no luck. The girl is growing up and exploring.
Marilyn did have better luck viewing Rabbit Island for almost three hours. She spotted five seals today. Just as she was setting up the scope she saw Mom and PO5 entering the water. They hauled out on the rocks flats at LPB for a feed about two hours later. After a 15 minute feed they entered the water again for another swim. Then once again about 45 minutes later they hauled out to LPB and had a nursing session. PO5 never showed its belly so no guesses yet.
Shortly after arrived she became aware of a UF unidentified female on the waterfront rocks between 3BS and SRI. She was joined by a UM unidentified male about a half hour later. The UF appears to be juvenile to subadult with an older green coat, 2 tags and female belly. This may be RK38 born in 2018. The UM is a subadult to adult size with a dark male belly and 2 tags.
After 2 hours PO3 Momona started to haul out by the UM and UF, but moved further towards the 3BS before completely hauling out. He was ID'd as PO3 by his weaner size, shape and light male belly. He is larger than PO1 whom was not around today.
