Today's dailies are brought to you by Melody and Team R&B💕.
Team R&B's first seal today was RL70 Leina snoozing on the upper rocks alone at a west side location. She is looking quite green and is probably due to molt soon. On their second check, Leina was gone. They did see one of the campers run jump the guard rail, run down the cove yelling. He came up on the rocks with a laynet, he ran away with the net heading towards Waianae. Team R&B left, but was worried about RL70 Leina. They returned a third time and to their relief they found Leina in a pond snoozing without a care in the world. She was just fine.
Next stop they went to the outfall, and spent time talking with the fishers who told them a seal came in
earlier, but left the area. So Team R&B studied the water what seemed like forever, and to their delight they saw RW22 Kolohe foraging and doing 5 minute dives. Kolohe was alone, until the snorkelers came. He was ID'd by his white wounded snout. He hung out for a bit then moved further out. When they went back to the west side location to check on RL70 they found another female hanging out. Funny how the females showed up with the boys off cruising the other beaches. There was RH76 Kala when they arrived for their second visit. On their final visit Kala RH76 moved more to the right and was fast a sleep. They tried really hard to get her tags but the little bugga wouldn't cooperate. Finally she stretched and they got a pic of her tags. The girls were 50 feet apart.
Melody went down early to visit with Kaiwi and P02. They were still snoozing high up in the Naupaka when she got there. Mom and pup stayed there for at least and hour with pup trying to nurse. Finally there was some movement and they made their way towards the water, but stopped and P02 finally got to nurse for a little while. Melody said she counted at least eight feeds. Kaiwi is getting thinner and the pup is starting to bite at her, as if he's frustrated. (not getting enough milk, maybe).
They finally went out for their morning swim and Melody was told they went all the way down past
Tonggs Beach. They stayed in the water for over an hour and made their way back to the beach swimming between the moored canoes and playing with the buoys. When they hauled out, there was more snoozing and P02 tried to nurse. Later in the day toward sunset they went out into the water again. This time they made their way around the jetty over to Kaimana Beach side but didn't haul out. They were still in the water swimming and diving when Melody left at almost 6 pm.
