06/14/2021 Monday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team T&D and Team R&B💕.

Team T&D hiked Ka'ena today and saw six seals and some Albatross chicks flapping their wings in the wind.

Their first finds were PvKauai RW02 and RO40 Ka'ena resting in the same area, so they were together but separate. Their next find was Nalu R3CX resting on some rocks. Tammy missed this seal but Dave saw it on the outer reef, turned out to be R407 Kawika. Lastly they checked in on Mom RL42 Leia and P03 Puka. Team T&D was also treated to some Albatross chicks taking advantage of the windy day. They were out flapping their wings and doing little jumps.

Team R&B did their early morning check on RL20 Kalua. Like clockwork he was there foraging doing

5 minute dives. (This kid is going to be huge when he finally hauls out). They actually got a photo of him eating a fish. They did a recheck in the afternoon and the little green seal was still foraging.

Then they got a call from Auntie so they headed over to check and their was a seal on shore. There was Kolohe RW22 on the sand mid beach, with signs already up around him. Auntie gave them the ropes so they put them up and adjusted the signs. Team R&B talked to some of the people around and found people were being respectful so far. Auntie went to call the hotline.

After leaving Kolohe Team R&B went to check other west side locations. They were happy to find Miss Kala RH76 on the rocks to the right waterfront. She was alone and seemed alert. She must have been there for a bit, her coat was very dry. She eventually moved into one of the water holes to cool off.

Next stop they found the beautiful Miss Lei Ola RH48 snoozing on the rocks. She well... had pooped and was kind of a mess. They had left and while in the car viewing the photos they noticed there was another seal there. They immediately turned around and went back. They hurried back to where Lei Ola was and there was RN14 Kalani moving in the little shallow pond, also pooping and peeing. (Hmmm either they ate something that didn't agree with them or they feel this is the best place to use as a toilet. ) He looked over to make sure Lei Ola was still there and she was. It's amazing Team R&B missed him the first time.
