Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team R&B and yours truly. 💕 Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Team R&B was thrilled and relieved to find RL20 Kalua today. He was at a west side beach and alone on the lower rocks. The little guy was snoozing and looking very very green. There is no sign of any molt. He remained there all day.
Their next find was Lei Ola RH48 with her brand new shiny coat. There was a tiny bit of molt on her neck and back but she's 98% done. Needless to say Team R&B was happy to lay eyes on her. She is looking very pretty and at a good weight. She remained in the same spot when they returned from their Ka'ena West trek.
During the very hot Ka'ena West trek, they came across the very handsome R407 Kawika, snoozing on
the rocks alone. He has good body weight and there is nothing new to report.Their last find was while they were at Ka'ena West. They saw a seal snoozing and well hidden in the rocks. They waited for the seal to move, and then walked to the right, then left to get a better photo. All they could see was a NB spot, the seal didn't give them much else to work with. It's their best guess this is RN14 Kalani.
I spent about two hours observing Rabbit Island. Initially I only saw one seal on the rock flat at RRB. Thankfully the critter turned over and I could see it had tags, adult size, very light male belly with a little bit of green. He was reported as UM #1.
I spent much of my time staring at rocks looking for Aukai RL12 and P04 since they are very good at hiding. Sure enough after 45 minutes the kid popped her little head up and then did a flipper stretch. About a half hour later they hauled up on the sand in front of the 2BS. There was a nursing and a nap.
Just after P04 first peeked over the waterfront tocks I scanned the island and found a seal at RRV between some rocks. At first I couldn't tell much other than it had a tag. Eventually it moved on its side then rolled over. The seal was adult size, with grey male belly, with a possible scar. He was reported as UM #2.
