06/11/2021 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.  We also got word from the NOAA Team and PO2 Loli'i has been tagged and official identification is RP96/P97. He was also fit up with a sat tag so NOAA can keep track of where the little buggah is located.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from about noon to 1:45, there were five seals on island during her observation.

On LPB was RP24 (P01) Mohala, she was ID'd by her size,

coloration, rear flipper tags, light female belly and NB on LFF.  She is looking healthy no signs of any problems with this weaner. She entered the water about 1:00 not long after Marilyn spotted an unidentified seal in the water off LPB.

Almost straight down from the 3BS was an U/J, juvenile size, older coat, lots of green on belly and no tags. Marilyn was unable to determine its gender. Most likely this is one of the untagged 2020 Rabbit Island pups. The UJ looks like it might be approaching it's first non-pup molt.  The UJ was briefly visited by a U/M. He only spent a few minutes and then went to check out Aukai and P04.

RL12 Aukai and P04 Manana started out in the water about 30 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS. The U/M stalked Aukai and P04 and stayed nearly until they hauled out onto the sand. The U/M stayed a bit longer and then entered the water. The UM was adult size, dark coloration with two tags.

Team R&B we out on the west side observing a few seal in the water foraging and fighting. They watched and was able to ID the three critters when they came around to haul out. Lei Ola RH48 hauled out first, followed by RH32 Kaale and then there was good ole Benny RE74. Benny was really wanting Lei Ola's attention but Kaale barked and he and Benny would fight. Benny tried a couple of different approaches, but he finally gave up and left. Kaale the young stud and Lei Ola landed and stayed together.

In between all the posturing between the trio,  Team R&B did spot the little green kid RL20 Kalua out

in the water foraging.

Then to their shock they see another seal coming in, the seal was very cautious, looking and then pulled in and hid in the rocks. They were able to ID RH76 Kala, she must be hiding from all the males, and seems to be doing a good job.

At another west side location they spotted the dolphins out and of course there were people in the water with them.  Then they spotted a huge male on the rocks. There was RN14 Kalani who back on the westside and he is really big, big and fat.
