Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Melody.
Team Billand was out before 7 am and found Da Benny RE74, he was resting way up in the vegetation. As they walked over a man with his retriever arrived, Team Billand met yesterday. The dog is young and full of energy, playful puppy. They watched and sure enough the dog sniffs out Benny, the dog went behind the bush were benny is sleeping. Then the he ran out like crazy away from Benny. LOL Benny probably gave em the Benny posture. Another dog owner arrives and the dogs were running around, and at one point got close to Benny, but the owner went and got them out. Finally they all left the area. Upon their recheck at 12:30, volunteer Melina was there talking to people and kids on shore. As far as Benny he was still there.
Team Billand headed over to the bay and spent between 7:30 and 9:30 for their first visit. They saw
three seals right at the jetty by a boat. One of them is green face Lei Ola RH48, R3CX who would eventually land. And the third seal is little RL20 who is playing with the two adults. They battled for a long time and then all of a sudden they were gone. Team Billand waited to see if they would come back. They eventually found Nalu R3CX who came up on the rocks alone. He was looking around for his buddies but none of them were around.Team Billand had a special treat when they spotted five turtles eating limu. And their friend Iwa bird was hanging out too.
At 9:40 they arrived at another west side location and found Kekoa Alii RK72 in the same spot again, lower rocks, snoozing alone. The waves were coming in lapping over his body, but he didn't seem to care.
At 10:30 they checked another beach and found seal buddies Kaale RH32 and Lefty RG28 together. They were together side by side on the rocks snoozing peacefully.
Just before 1:00 pm Team Billand was told by a man there were two seals in the area and lots of
tourists. So they went and found Aukai RL12 with Kalani RN14. Kalani seems to have a way with the ladies. Aukai gave him a whoop when Kalani made a move to sniff her, so he backed off. Aukai knows how to put him in his place. they were fortunate enough to see dolphins and there were no boats, no divers and no swimmers.Melody received word that Rocky had hauled out at Kaimana Beach, so she headed down to day a look. She was there in an area that had been coned off with lots of people around. People had lots of questions especially since she is molting.
Melody shared Rocky's story and monk seal 101. Volunteer was onsite. Melody left just before sunset and Rocky was still snoozing in her zone about 50% molted.
While Melody was in Waikiki she checked on her White Tern chicks and they're doing good. One of them was not happy because she was getting wet during the rain. I had to include these photos of this little cutie! (thanks Melody for sharing).
