11/28/2020 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Marilyn. AND some special photos from posse pal Karen B.

Karen is an old friend who I met back in the Chester days. Karen is a diver and amazing photographer. Well today she lucked out and spotted RJ58 Kaimana underwater! *note she had a zoom lens*

Team Billand found Kaale RH32 at the outfall stealing fish as usual. He left the area and headed off to tracks. He landed, looked around, rolled back into the water. Then he returned to the outfall. They thought he would land again but gave up waiting.  The beaches were crowded too many people to deal with.

Team Billand checked out another westside location. They found Kekoa RK72 up on left high mid rocks. He is looking quite fat, an was snoozing alone Leina RL70 was hidden once again. Today they managed to get a peek at her tag, white nails and one shot of her with Kekoa in the background.

At 11 Team Billand headed over to the bay, they were thrilled to find a seals on the rocks. It was RL20 Kalua sleeping next to RN44. They hung out together the entire time Team Billand was on site. So many people were out today, some of them didn't notice them until there was a sneeze or a snort.

Team Billand kept scanning the area and sure enough they see a critter coming around the rocks to the ocean side of the jetty. It was Nalu R3CX foraging . Lei Ola RH48 come next and both were foraging together. Team Billand noticed a third seal but they were unable to get an ID. All three seals disappeared in the water.

Marilyn did Ka'ena Point with Diane, Gabby and Lesley this morning. After trekking the point she went to check Rabbit Island from 2 - 4 pm. There were six seals on island today.

On LPB were: unknown, unknown, (UU) looked to be juvenile to sub adult size. The critter never showed anything else to work with.  Unknown, adult size, dark male belly (UM). Marilyn had trouble determining if this critter had a new or older coat.

Near 1BS was unknown, SAF subadult size, light yellow female belly, two tags and a newer coat. Marilyn thinks this is the same SAF from yesterday in same location.

Between 3BS and SRI was: RM90/N5, small weaner size, light yellow female belly, 2 tags and applied

N5 bleach. Nice to see her since she hadn't been seen since the tagging and EVEN BETTER Marilyn could ID her !

On Rocky Right Beach were: RW22 Kolohe, adult size, new coat, gray male belly and NB behind RFF. Unknown juvenile size UJ, lighter belly with some green. Marilyn was unable to see the sex of if there were tags.
