11/27/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Tammy, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is from Thanksgiving day and is part two of the dailies.

Tammy went out to Ka'ena Point and met up with Lesley. As they drove up to one of the beaches they spotted two small seals playing in the shore break. It was RK40 Napua and RL98 Lina, and they soon hauled out for some rest.

Their next find was RN58 Luana.  At the point there were lots of

hikers and families. Lastly they found RW02 PvKauai, and down the beach was Holokai RG40.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 2:25, she spotted six seals today.  On left point beach moving toward the 1BS were: UFW, unknown larger weaner size, light yellow female belly, no tags and possibly an applied bleach on right rear side. Marilyn thinks this "might" be Nohea N2 but can not say for sure. RW22 Kolohe, adult size, male belly, new coat and no visible tags, and his signature NB behind RFF. UAM, unknown adult size, gray male belly with a new darker coat. USAF, unknown sub-adult size, female belly, newer coat and at least one tag.

On the beach between 3BS and SRI were: UW, unknown weaner size, older coat with a fair amount of green, no tags and possibly a male belly. This may be the same weaner that was reported yesterday by the 3BS. UAM, unknown, adult size, brown male belly and older coat with a light umbilicus area.

Team Billand checked out plains early morning but other than a beautiful sunrise there were no seals. They headed over to the bay they spotted R3CX Nalu ocean side. He was just coming into the area, foraging near the jetty. Lei Ola RH48 arrived shortly after and she and Nalu were frolicking together. Then the people came paddling out to the area to check out the dolphins. Team Billand lost sight of the seal and left the area.  They did returned at 3 pm and only found R3CX.

At 11 am Team Billand headed over to another west side location. They found Kekoa Alii RK72 who

had been there for a while, since he was completely dry.

Next critter they found was Aukai RL12 was on shore and alert. She is looking quite healthy and fat. A woman approached and Team Billand talked story giving her Aukai's history.  They spotted another critter and here comes Ka'ale RH32 and heads for Aukai. She was not interested. They called the hotline twice.  Suddenly Kaale and Aukai started arguing and took off just like that.

Last seal of the day was little RL70. She was hidden in the rocks the entire time. She does a good job keeping herself hidden away.
