Team Billand arrived at the bay and didn't see any signs of splashing around, no seals anywhere. They stayed and waited and then at 7:30 they spotted the first two seals. They were headed to the right ocean side of the jetty and then straight out to the buoy. They were playing there forever, people coming to watch them on their paddle boards and kayaks. At one point Nalani RH92 went to the bay side of the jetty and tried to climb up on the rocks while the fishermen were trying to pass to the next rock to fish. Nalu R3CX followed her too.
Just as they were ready to give up Nalu and Nalani landed on the sand. Team Billand quickly went
around and called the hotline, and the lifeguards brought three signs. Volunteer Melina arrived and brought more signs. Team Billand left and when they checked back at 4 they were still there. At 8 am they spotted Lei Ola RH48 coming into the bay, she foraged at the jetty most of the day. RL20 Kalua came in next and spent his time bugging Lei Ola.
To their delight they saw two seals on land. When they realized it was N4 Barb, jumped with joy (and there is a rumor she did a cartwheel). He is looking good, nice and fat. Next to Ikaika N4 was RL20 two little buds. At 3 pm they did a recheck and both seals were seen leaving.
Between visits to the bay they made a stop and found RH36 by seal inlet on the rocks snoozing. She is looking very fat and didn't move much during their observation.
RL70 Leina was well hidden in the rocks. They managed to find her and get one blurry shot of her tag.
Then just before 3 before arriving back at the bay they made a stop and found Aukai RL12 on shore resting. Unfortunately there were tourist getting way too close. Some people were going for their photo op and foot prints were everywhere. Team Billand called the hotline and let them know about the tourists.
Team T&D hiked Ka'ena Point and met up with Lesley. There were lots of albatross that have landed, several flying around. A couple of times they actually had to duck from the being dive bombed. In the seal world they had Ka'ena RO40. RN14 Kalani and RL74 Kami all at back beach. On their way out they found BG R303.
Melody sent some photos of our little N5 who got bleached yesterday. She is pretty darn cute and small.
