11/12/2020 Thursday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Team T&D.

Team T&D hiked Ka'ena point today. They were out there a couple hours after Lesley. They pretty much saw the same seals except for a few.  Team T&D first found BG R303 and RW02 PvKauai.  Their next find was a mystery until they got come and checked the photos, to their surprise it was RJ58 the infamous Kaimana. She is looking nice and healthy.  There were several Albatross that have landed and a few flying around.

Team Billand found Da Benny just before 7 am. When they arrived he was by the vegetation and pink tape was up. Team Billand called the hotline to report. After a little bit the owners with dogs came by, were asked to keep back, they were kind enough to do so. Team Billand waited for a volunteer but left before anyone came, if they did at all.

Team Billand's next find was a surprise, there was a little critter on shore snoozing with a goofy bleach

mark. The little dude was all wet and must of just arrived.  Later in the afternoon they made a second trip to the site and now they could see the bleach was N4 Ikaika,  He is so tiny and clean, no scars, no hooks, they hadn't seen him since they were out at Ka'ena Point.  He is very alert, tiny compared to the boys the Billands are used to looking at.  Volunteer Melina was on site.

They headed out to the bay and initially didn't see any critters. Waiting for a bit they see a seal foraging, it would land on the rocks to the right. RH32 Kaale hauled up on the ledge. He was settled in near a fisherman, and three young locals were there to jump off the rocks. They weren't there long.  Nalu R3CX arrived, landed with Kaale. He showed his tags and his bleach on left side of his head.

They spotted Lei Ola foraging for a bit and then she came on the rocks, to the right of the boys. Enough distance that they weren't bothering her.

At 1:30 they found RL20 Kalua on lower rocks sleeping. He had company today a couple of people were in the area doing whatever, turns out the guy was videoing him RL20 got annoyed, postured, and left. Shame the seals aren't just left alone.

They spotted their green boy Kekoa to the right of seal inlet, he was getting wet from high tide. After a few waves hit him he left.  Lefty RG28 was at the water front rocks, snoozing. He really didn't move much, but they saw his tags for split second. He was the only one of the three that remained.

At 2:30 they found Kawika R407 on the rocks snoozing. At first they they thought it was Kaale, but by the ding on his check they realized it was Kawika.

Team Billand headed back to the back to check on who was there. Sure enough they see three seals close to each other, Ka'ale, and Lei Ola just behind him. Next to them was RN44, (Pohaku's kid from 2013). He is a big boy and very interested Lei Ola.  This of course made Team Billand's day!
