11/18/2020 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and news from NOAA.

We got word today that a female weaner got bleached with N5, by NOAA. Our pal Gayle was on site and watched over the little cutie for the afternoon. According to NOAA there is no way to be sure which weaner this is from Rabbit Island since most of them were born when Covid put us in quarantine. All I can say is I know Marilyn is going to be thrilled, it's been a real challenge getting IDs off Rabbit Island.

Team Billand was thrilled this morning to see their first whale this morning. They did the best they

could with photos, but early morning made it difficult. Along with the whale sighting there was a beautiful rainbow. Nice way to start your day.

At the bay they spotted multiple seals outer ocean, fighting, foraging, and more fighting. It was hard to tell who was who, but in the end they were able to get a couple IDs. They ID'd  Lei Ola RH48 and RN44 in that they were the only two that landed. They stayed until afternoon watching and enjoying natures beauty.

While watching the seals in the bay they could hear seals barking and snorting close by.  To their surprise there was RH92 Nalani passing by just below. She is looking really good and was busy with a male after her.  R3CX Nalu was busy going after Lei Ola at first and then he moved on with RH92 Nalani.

Little RL20 Kalua was fighting like crazy bugging all the adults, but then he and Nalu went after RH92 for the rest of the day, in the bay and to the jetty.  There were people in the bay on kayaks and a few got close, too bad people don't respect them as wild animals. Team Billand called the hotline.

After Team Billand left the bay they stopped at another west side location and found the very handsome Kekoa Alii RK72. He was resting on lower rocks.  Leina RL70 was on high mid rocks alone. She didn't move the entire time just in snooze mode.
