11/13/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies.

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

They were out at 6:30 and found Da Benny RE74 up by the vegetation again. There was a photography session with a model taking place. Team Billand made sure Benny was okay and not part of their plan. Truth be told they never knew he was there.

Next stop was the bay at 7:30. They spotted Lei Ola RH48 foraging. She never landed today, just foraging and fighting with the boys. Seems there were multiple males out there today looking for her attention. RL20 Kalua continues to hang out with them. He is a trooper continues to forage, fight, play with all the adults. He likes Lei Ola and she is always sweet with him. She actually holds his head with her flippers. I am sure one of these days she'll probably smack him with her flipper too.

RG28 Lefty was having a good old time with the other adults and RL20 in the open waters. His cookie scars were visible which made ID'ing him easy. He kept trying to land in odd spots where the others don't go. Eventually he landed, had to fight to get up on the rocks, but he made it.

It wouldn't be a party without Ka'ale RH32. He mostly stuck to the jetty in the opened sea side, fighting with the others. He never landed while Team Billand was there.

RN44 was up on left rocks the entire day, never went in for a swim. He is a big seal and Team Billand are thrilled to observe him.  So we have a correction from yesterday.... He is not Pohaku's son, he is Rocky's boy from 2013 on Kauai. Team Billand had seen him many times on Kauai when they would visit (in the good ole' days pre-covid).

R3CX Nalu played and fought with the others and then he decided to haul out. He would stay on the rocks until noon, then it was back in the water. He found his girl Lei Ola greeted her with a smooch, and that is where he spent the rest of the day.

At another west side location they found weaner N4. This little guy was snoozing on shore, pink tape

was up. His belly was brown may have been from resting on dirt. They spoke with the resident in the are who is the person putting up the tape.  She said without the tape people would come by and bother the baby seal. Nice to have caring people looking out for the critters.

During the day on their travels they found Kekoa RK72 foraging. There was a plastic bag where he normally settles, and they saw a guy walk away from the area. He was by the Akule Boat which is always a little scary, but the guy on the boat saw him. There were divers in the water, bringing up a net to the boat. Volunteer Melina came by, so Team Billand filled her in.
