12/3/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update

Marilyn, Diane & I braved downpouring rain, did a slip & slide hike out to Ka’ena Pt for some monitoring and LOTS of outreach.
We were rewarded by 4 seals: R330 “Squinty” & RG40 “Holokai” were cuddled together on Back Beach up near the Naupaka line, further to the side RO40 “Ka’ena” was sleeping near the Big Rock, and the 4th seal was R3CU hauled up on Main Beach on a little patch of sand near the Big Rock.
All seals were in deep sleep and didn’t seem to be bothered by the amount of visitors. We saw R3CU wake up move around and make his way down the beach to the Main Pool. We were getting ready to leave when Niko (HMAR volunteer) showed up so we left him with the responsibility to do outreach with the new comers.

It was a dry hike back but with still a lot of slipping & sliding.
