June 1, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 9:33 to 10:58 am and then from 1:20 to 3:25 pm. It was a busy day but also a very sad day.
First with the sad news, Marilyn did not locate new pup PO9 who was born to RL12 Aukai sometime early on Friday. Yesterday, Marilyn reported that Aukai and the pup did not seem to bond and the pup ended up in the water for over two hours inspite of Aukai's attempts to get the pup to crawll up the shore. It is assumed PO9 is dead.
Marilyn was quite surprised when she found RL12 Aukai nursing a large pup. All indication are that Auke has adopted weaner PO3 who was born on 4/1/2024 to RF34 and weaned when he was six weeks old. Marilyn saw several nursing session, one swim session and several snooze session. It will be interesting to see how long Aukai will nurse PO3 and how big he will get. Aukai's N13 applied bleach was visible and PO3's male belly.
Aukai was located about 40 feet from RH76 Kala and her pup PO8 who was born on 5/30/2024. Marilyn only saw PO8 for short periods of time because Kala seem to keep the pup behind her. Kala's applied N77 bleach was visible.

Between 3BS and SRI both this morning and afternoon were two seals near each other:
Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, very mottled light to dark gray female belly and two red tags.
Near the SF was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light tannish yellow female belly and two red tags.

At 2:07 pm, Marilyn became aware that two seals had hauled out in the
middle to back part of LPB:
Adult Male: adult size, dark gray male belly and at least one red tag.
Adult Female: adult size, older coat, and mottled female belly, unsure about tags.

Team R&B started their day at the outfall. From afar they saw a seal swimming next to a diver. Team R&B wasn't able to get a decent photo but did their best. They couldn't make and ID and could only see the seal had a lot of green.
At Kahe they found Mr. Kaale RH32. He was alone resting looking healthy and fat.
They also were treated to the dolphins putting on a show.

Heading over to Nimitz they spotted a seal in the water shoot out of the sardine school. They watched it go by the jetty and then around. They noted it had a cc scar on its back which made them think it was R407. They lost site of the seal before they could confirm its ID. There were lots of people everywhere today.
While at Nimitz they saw two seals on shore and a woman laying very close next to them. Team R&B hurried over to check out the situation. The woman was about 10 feet from the seals, who were RH48 Lei Ola and R3CX Nalu. They spoke with the girl who responded by saying she felt so calm laying next to the seals, that the seals kept looking at her. (She lucky they were just looking)
Team R&B was able to ID Lei Ola right away, but it took them a while to confirm R3CX's ID. Thankfully his natural bleach on the left side of his face gave them what they needed.

Last stop at another west side location they found two more seals. They were both on the rocks resting.
The two moved as the high tide was coming in. Near to seal inlet was RM31 Kai.
About 10 feet to the right was RG28 Lefty looking big and fat.
