Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Lesley and Team R&B💕.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:25 to 1:25 and there were four seals on island today. On LPB were three seals. (SAM) subadult size, new coat, light male belly and two tags. (AM) adult size, old coat, dark male belly and one tag on RRF. (JF) juvenile size, new coat, light female belly and two tags.
The JF was up in the dunes when Marilyn first arrived, and then she galumphed down to the AM. About 11:42 the AM and JF entered the water. 10 minutes later the JF hauled out at Middle Cliff with the AM following her. He left shortly thereafter and was not seen again.
At RRB was a lone seal reported as UU. Unknown juvenile to subadult size, newer coat. Marilyn never
saw her rear flippers or belly. The seal entered the water about 12:30 pm and was not seen again.Team R&B did their early morning check at the bay and sure enough there were two seals foraging and stealing fish. First there was RL20 Kalua chose to hang with a fisher in a small water craft. RL20 snuck up and tried to get his basket of fish, the fisherman grabbed the back up in the air and yelled at RL20, even took his scoop net to hit the water to scare him away. But the little bugga was persistent.
Then there was Kaale RH32 who was foraging, and stealing his fair share of fish. Later in the day it looked like Kaale was going to land but the waves kept tossing him about so he just headed out in the Honolulu direction. Then there was RL20 who had hauled out on the rocks. He was fat a sleep (LOL) yes fat and happily asleep.
Their next find at another west side beach was Nalu R3CX. He was in the same area where he had been seen before. Looks like there was some moving around as there were lots of wallows all over.
Team R&B did the walk out to Ka'ena west and found just two seals sleeping on the rocks. There was
RN14 Kalani who was trying to get closer to RH76 Kala. She didn't want anything to do with him. Kala is looking quite lovely in her new coat. She held her own with RN14 by her, he ended up galumphing around her and settled in.They went back to the west side beach where Nalu had been but now there was Kolohe RW22. To the best of their knowledge they never saw Kolohe on their first visit or in the area before. The security guard put cones around him.
Last stop Team R&B went and checked another west side location where there hasn't been any seals for several day. But today they spotted a seal! There was Mr. Lefty RG28, out cold and snuggled up in the rocks.
