Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn and Team R&B💕 Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:15 to 1:35 and there were five seals (maybe six). Just as she was setting up the spotting scope, she saw a seal hauling out to another seal by the 1BS side of LPB. She quickly got the camera set up the camera the seal had hauled out.
So on LPB, there were two seals. U/M#1 subadult size, new coat, very light male belly and two tags. U/M2, adult size, older coat, dark male belly, and one tag on the RRF. This is the seal that arrived while she was setting up.
At 11:30 Marilyn notices a juvenile U/J#1 had appeared about 50 feet Lanikai side of the two U/Ms.
This seal was juvenile size and appeared to have a newer coat. Unfortunately it entered the water about 10 minutes later, before Marilyn could see its belly or if it had any tags.At 11:48 Marilyn became aware of U/J #2 on waterfront rocks between the 1BS and 2BS. this seal was juvenile size and had an old coat with lots of green. Marilyn thinks this seal was a male, but reporting as an unknown. She never saw any tags, which made her wonder if it was one of the 2020 pups (PO1 or PO3) neither of these two were tagged.
At 12:38, she became aware of a J/M, hauled out in the middle cliff area. This seal seal was juvenile size, had a new coat, light male belly and two tags. This is possibly the same juvenile as UJ#1.
At the 3BS area, was an U/F, subadult size, newer coat, light female belly and two tags. She was there for the entire time Marilyn was there.
Team Billand checked out the bay and found RL20 Kalua was foraging among 7 kayak fishermen. He just kept coming up in the middle of the kayaks, at times was seen far out at the end of the jetty.
On their afternoon check they found RL20 hauled out. They were happy to see him on land as the
dolphin boat was letting their passengers out to snorkel where RL20 usually hangs out.Team R&B made the hike out to Ka'ena west. There were lots of folks out today. Then they had the best find, they spotted a little fat seal on the rocks alone snoozing. It was RP30 Puka! He is looking chubby and healthy, doing just fine on his own. Mama RL42 Leia ya done good.
