Today's dailies are brought to you by Team T&D and Team R&B💕
Team T&D met up with Lesley and hiked out to the point. They had a very good day with seven seal day. First find was Lina RL98, hanging out on her beach. Next find was Kami RL74, she was resting until a wave hit her. She moved to higher and drier ground. Near Kami was R407 Kawika, there was no interaction between them. He also woke up with a wave.
They checked on the Wedge Tailed Shearwater chicks. They're getting big and adult feathers coming in. Their next find was Kala RH76 and R330 Squinty resting together. A third seal arrived and caused a raucous. Third seal turned out to be Ka'ena RO40. Squinty barked at him several time, as if to tell him to back off from his girl. Ka'ena did leave, soon after they spotted a seal closer to the point. When they got there it turned out to be PvKauai RW02.
Between RW02, RO40 and R330 all moving around they at times didn't know who was who until they could double checked on the computer.
Team R&B started with the little green seal, RL20 Kalua was foraging in the bay. There were three boats in the water. Seemed there weren't that many fish around, RL20 hung out farther out at the end of the jetty.
On their afternoon check, the little bugga landed on the rocks wiggling his way into the rocks. He did such a good job they couldn't see his facial area at all. There was a tour group coming so they left to keep his location safe.
Team T&D checked out tracks and when they arrived they spotted a seal galumphing up on the shore. They were able to ID RG28 Lefty. The tourist in the area hurried closer to get a photo. That's when Team R&B heard someone from the parking lot yell out "Stay back 50 feet of the seal, he needs to rest!" Team R&B gave them a big thumbs up and a thank you! This is what it is all about, being out in the community doing enough outreach that the community takes the responsibility to watch out for the seals.
