08/26/2021 Thursday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team T&D and Team R&BπŸ’•.   Team T&D were out yesterday and I missed their original report.

In yesterday's news Team T&D and Lesley hiked out to the point. They had a total of eight seals (wow). First find was Luana RN48. Down the beach from her was Kolohe RW22. Lina RL98 was their next find on the same beach as Tuesday.
At the point the first critter they found was Squinty R330. In the main pool was PvKauai RW02. They also spotted Kami RL74 and Kala RH76. Those girls have been spending a lot of time hanging out together. Lastly they saw a seal do a swim by. Lesley was able to follow him and watched him haul out. She ID'd Ka'ena RO40.  A bonus to the day were lots of shearwater chicks, some already getting big.

Team R&B started the day at the bay where there was a lot of action going on. First seal was RH32
Kaale foraging and stealing. He met up with the little green kid RL20 and there was a big fight between them, maybe it was for territory or one of them stole a fish from the other. Later Kaale met up with an U/U.
Team R&B couldn't tell who the U/U was. It came flying in and Kaale went after it full throttle. The two went to the right and further out.

Next stop was at tracks and initially they didn't see any seal. There was one sign up but no seal. They were going to leave when they spotted a seal heading toward them. Of course the people had to run along the shore line trying to get a picture
Team R&B grabbed the sign and headed in the direction of the seal. They found two more signs just in the nick of time since the seal was heading back and finally hauled out.  They got folks back put up some signs and did their best to educate people.
They met up with a swimmer they know and she expressed concern with all the tourist bugging the seals when they land. Team R&B told her to call the hotline, and she said she had but there was no one to respond with three seals on shore.  They stayed a little longer to with the seal who was ID'd as Lefty RG28. And told their friend to continue to call the hotline.

Team R&B headed over to another west side location, which they hesitate to go on some days because of all the dogs. But today they cautiously walked over and were thrilled to find R407 Kawika on the rocks. He's looking pretty green and seemed to be distracted by something. They looked around but couldn't see anything.  They decided to leave in a hurry, before any dogs came out, trying to protect Kawika and themselves.
