I received word from Gamma Gayle yesterday that Kaiwi RK96 had started her molt. She's hoping that Kaiwi has her new coat for her birthday on the 11th.
Today I got an email from Melody with word of Kaiwi's molt, and the difference between yesterday and today, I would say Kaiwi should be looking beautiful for her birthday. Melody noted that Kaiwi was scratching a lot of the old fur and its just falling and hanging off of her. There were a lot of people on the beach who of course had a lot of questions about this strange process. At one point some trash blew close to her and she moved up further on the sand to get away from it. Melody called the hotline and stayed for a couple of hours until a volunteer arrived.
Team R&B spent hours this morning with no seals in site. Finally early afternoon they found Miss Kala
At another west side spot they found Miss Lei Ola RH48. She was alone on the rocks resting.
Late afternoon they spotted two seals from afar. The drove and made the long walk to where the seals were resting. When they arrived they saw RM31 Kai scooting up to RG28 Lefty. Kai is so green they thought for a moment it was L20. But RM31 is smaller and not quite as green. Lefty RG28 looks good and grubby. He didn't mind the kid hanging out with him. They didn't stay long as they didn't want to bring any attention to them.
