Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island today from 12:15 to 2:00, there were three seals on island during her observation. She first spotted an UM on the 3BS side of LPB. Subadult to adult size, older coat, lighter brown male belly and two tags.
At about 12:20 she spotted weaner P04 Manana on the rock flat Lanikai side of LPB. She was playing in the tide pools. About 15 minutes later she entered the water and then later hauled out to the UM on LPB. She approached him, then went behind him. He was aware of her but didn't bother with her at all. They settled and went into snooze mode. P04 was ID'd by weaner size and shape, light female belly one tag her RRF. It was good to see her after not seeing her last weekend.
When Marilyn first started viewing she also saw a JF at SRI at the same place she was yesterday. She is juvenile to subadult size, new coat, light silver belly and two tags.
Team R&B did their usual morning stop and found RL20 Kalua foraging. A friendly fisherman told them that before they arrive RL20 had a caught a huge trumpet fish and was tossing it about. Team R&B did see him grab something and eat it, probably was the leftovers. Later in the day they found RL20 on the rocks resting. He was not tossing his head, or restless, he was sleeping peacefully. They did not see any line today. Hopefully he just tossed it on his own.
Next stop they spotted a seal on the sand. It was Aukai RL12 and she has begun her molt. She was very sandy so it's hard to tell what condition she's in. They called the hotline to report and inform them of people on the beach getting really close. Team R&B stood by and watched over her for a while.
While hanging out with Aukai they spotted another seal coming in fast, head above the water. It was RG28 Lefty who hauled up on shore by a box he was interested in. (beer) He then headed over to Aukai in flash lightening speed. He moved so fast he left a trail behind him. Aukai wasn't happy with his presence and she let him know. He didn't care, kept at her, she moved, he moved faster. In the end they were side by side all sandy and resting. Finally a volunteer was arrived, and Team R&B headed out.
Next seal they found at another location was RL42 Leia. She is molting and was resting on the rocks. They couldn't see her belly to determine how far along she is. Then they spotted a green seal between the rocks from afar. The seal had white nails and they ID'd RL70 Leina. She is very green resting peacefully.
On their way to Ka'ena west they made a quick stop and found RM31 Kai. Someone had made a zone out of driftwood, nice to see the community pitching in.
Team R&B made the hike out to Ka'ena west and they were glad they did. Their first find was Kalani RN14 who was moving over the rocks in a hurry. As they were getting pictures they noticed another seal. There was RH76 Kala hidden away, but they could see her markers. Kalani was bugging her and she just laid there not responding to him. When they returned from their hike Kalani was gone.
Team R&B received an unexpected but welcomed comment from some fishermen. There were three netters, one of them called out " Hey Auntie, I remember you, you da seal lady. I see you all over the coast line all the time for years". When you are out there dedicated, people notice.
